This is an interactive installation on autoimmune diseases. Hospital curtains were sewn and arranged for the viewer to enter a clinical exam room environment. Inside the viewer could flip up fabric panels on the patient and open the exam table drawer to discover more information on these often invisible diseases. Unique intimate thoughts from my own journey were stored in test tubes, which the viewer could interact with and read through through the blood-like substance. Along side the test tube rack are two jars full of tongue depressors showing a range of treatment and symptom possibilities. Pulling out the different options reinforces the trial and error nature of diagnosing and treating autoimmune conditions.
Since consciousness extends beyond the physical body in the form of morphic and energetic fields, I heighten sensation, creating work that is visceral by engaging and evoking sensations like smell, sound, and touch with sensual ingredients like spices and soil adhered to paper. These abstractions are my musings on how our internal and external emotional state interacts with and effects morphic fields. Theorists in psychology, biology, and spirituality claim that extrasensory perception takes place and that people unconsciously connect to and receive information that influences their lives. Through my studies and dialogues with various professors and colleagues I became more conscious of the difference in my own amplified perceptions in comparison to others, allowing me to discover I have sensory processing disorder. This revelation explains how sensations become overwhelming since my brain does not efficiently receive and react to incoming signals. Sharing the effects of this disorder inspires dialogue on how expansive perceptions may manifest in individuals.
Here's a look at some of my experimental illustrative paintings on paper. When I paint I use my fingers to add layers of paint to the paper. I start out with vague shapes and then add more distinction to certain areas or forms. I allow my unconscious to start the journey with my conscious ultimately deciding what will be represented.
Here is a compilation of many sculpture projects I have created from fashion design to lighting fixtures. I've worked with a wide range of materials. Most of these sculptures are created to emphasize the unconscious and our ability to recognize shapes and life forms from otherwise ambiguous objects.
